The Center for Global Understanding was instrumental
in developing the concept, in building the facility, and
establishing the International Cultural Center at Texas
Tech University (TTU).
The CGU funds the World Issues Distinguished Speakers
Series and the General Dudley E. Faver Lecture in
International Diplomacy.
The CGU provided multi-year financing for the College
of Education's K-12 International Education Outreach
Program, which reaches kindergarten- 12th grade students
and teachers through a variety of global-related
educational activities.
The CGU provided funding for TTU, school districts
and community projects.
The CGU provided funding for receptions for numerous
international visitors.
Looking Ahead ...
To advance international understanding by supporting
speakers on global issues and supporting internationally
related educational programs, performances, and cultural
opportunities.
To foster appreciation for US democratic institutions
and its peoples through activities that promote positive
human relations and information such as exchange
programs, hosting international visitors, and promoting
community participation in internationally related
activities at regional educational institutions and
cultural centers;
To provided the West Texas business community with
opportunities to network with influential international
business representatives to increase economic growth of
the region;
To increase accurate knowledge about world issues and
cultures through the international educational
activities for students (kindergarten-university) by
collaborating with relevant degree, certification, and
training programs;
To advance positive international understanding and
appreciation of US culture by supporting opportunities
for international experiences such as study abroad by
students from regional communities, and study
international students; and
To engage in and support activities that promote name
recognition of CGU and enhance the organization's
outreach and effectiveness.
